Reviewing advice you have already received

A second opinion after care at The Park Hospital

If you have seen a consultant at The Park Hospital and would like another view on an orthopaedic recommendation or recovery, you can discuss your questions with Professor Paul Lee at our Grantham or Sleaford clinics.

Your orthopaedic second opinion

Another perspective on your treatment decision

You may be deciding whether to proceed with an operation, comparing different treatment options, or seeking an explanation for symptoms that remain after surgery. A second opinion gives you a separate consultation in which to work through those questions.

A different opinion does not, by itself, mean that earlier advice was wrong. The review considers the information available, the reasons for the original recommendation and your own priorities. It may support the existing plan or identify questions to discuss further.

Before your appointment

Request the records that explain the recommendation

For an opinion before surgery, useful material includes the consultation letter, proposed procedure, scan reports and the images themselves. Write down which part of the recommendation you would like explained.

For a review after surgery, also gather the operation note, discharge summary and follow-up or rehabilitation letters where available. Ask your existing hospital or consultant how to obtain copies and tell our team if anything is missing.

Questions to take into the room

  • What benefit is the proposed procedure intended to provide?
  • What alternatives were considered, and why?
  • How should the previous operation and recovery inform the next decision?

You will receive a written summary. You can discuss it with your current team; having a consultation does not commit you to treatment with us.

Before arranging your review

Is this a Park Hospital appointment?

No. This service is provided by Second Opinion Clinic, part of MSK Doctors. It is not a Circle Health Group or The Park Hospital booking. Appointments are at our Grantham or Sleaford clinics.

Will this review automatically recommend another operation?

No. The purpose is to understand your situation and options. A review may support the current plan, suggest further assessment or discuss a different approach.
