Clinical experience

A broad orthopaedic foundation

Professor Paul Lee is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. Consultant Arthroplasty and Sports Surgeon, United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Day to day, that means total and partial knee replacement, total hip replacement, revision surgery for replacements that have worn or failed, and the assessment and repair of sports injuries such as ACL tears. Patients are referred to him for complex knee problems as a second or third opinion, as well as for routine joint replacement.

Looking at the options

Joint preservation and regenerative work

Alongside that conventional practice, Professor Lee has built a specific interest in joint preservation: looking carefully at whether a joint can be helped, protected or treated short of replacement, and being equally honest when replacement remains the right answer. This side of his work has grown directly out of his years of hands-on replacement and revision surgery, informed by seeing, first-hand, what works well and what tends to go wrong, rather than being a separate practice.

What this means for you

A conversation built around your decision.

Your appointment is an opportunity to connect the clinical findings with the decision you are facing. Bring the recommendation you have been given, the questions you would like answered and a sense of what matters most to you, whether that is work, sport, sleep or day-to-day independence.

Professor Lee may agree with the advice you have already received, suggest a different option or explain why more information is needed. The purpose is to make the reasoning understandable, so that you can take an informed next step.
